E3 might have been cancelled this year, but several gaming showcases have taken place over the past few days nevertheless. Among the many games shown were two upcoming cosmic horror games.
At the Guerilla Collective showcase, developer Scape-IT and publisher Raw Fury shared a trailer for their upcoming tactical RPG Skald: Against the Black Priory.
Described as “a grim-dark fantasy world of tragic heroes, violent deaths and Lovecraftian horror,” it is a retro-style game set to be released later this year.
More details can be found at the game’s Steam page. A prologue is also available on Steam to serve as a demo to introduce players to the world and gameplay.
Next, one of the most intriguing games shown at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase was The Last Case of Benedict Fox.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox is described as Lovecraftian Metroidvania and features a detective whose bond with a demon allows him to explore the minds of the deceased to investigate a case. How strongly the cosmic horror elements will play into it remain to be seen, but the reveal trailer demonstrates a dark, eerie atmosphere.
The game is set for a spring 2023 release on PC and Xbox consoles. More details can be found at its Steam page.
Both Skald: Against the Black Priory and The Last Case of Benedict Fox are intriguing games to keep an eye on as we go forward.
