Frictional Games has announced Amnesia: Rebirth for PC and PS4 with an autumn 2020 release window.
Amnesia: Rebirth is set in the Algerian desert and follows a new protagonist named Tasi Trianon. According to the official description, the game features “a harrowing journey through devastation and despair, personal terror and pain, while exploring the limits of human resilience.”
It will deal with “a shattered past” as well as “the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you.”
Amnesia: Rebirth’s official Steam page adds a few more gameplay details as well, mentioning puzzles, limited resources, and horrific creatures.
Finally, some additional information can be gathered from Creative Director Thomas Grip’s PlayStation Blog post about the game, which says Amnesia: Rebirth is built on what they learned from The Dark Descent and will be “an emotionally harrowing journey” that goes beyond simple horror.
The short “I am Tasi” teaser can also provide hints as to the game’s direction.
Although Amnesia: Rebirth has not been explicitly described as a Lovecraftian or cosmic horror game, it is worth noting that it is set in Algeria, where Daniel first came into contact with the Orb in The Dark Descent’s backstory.
