Earlier this month, Vigil: The Longest Night was revealed for a PC, PS4, and Xbox One release in early 2020, with a Nintendo Switch version to follow at a later date.
It is a 2D side-scrolling action platformer with a focus on storytelling as well as precise combat.
The art style was inspired by Chinese Paper Cutting, while the narrative is described as “a unique tale of eldritch horror that blends Lovecraftian prose and Taiwanese culture.”
Castlevania, Salt & Sanctuary, and Bloodborne are also listed as influences.
From the looks of the trailer, it’s certainly aiming for a strong horror atmosphere, and it sounds like they intend to have heavy Lovecraftian themes. Back when it was on Steam Greenlight, it was outright described as using the Cthulhu Mythos.
